Celebrating 35 years!
In 1982 several downtown businessmen, the owner of Sneakers (Rob Ramsay) along with the owner of Alpine Office Products (William Frame), the owner of Hibbs Clothing (Larry Ingels), the owner of Westermann Clothing (Bud Westermann) and local artist James Disney came up with the idea to have a Run in downtown Loveland. Their vision was to have an evening race through downtown benefiting a local nonprofit organization. We have had many different groups over the past 35 years, Partners, Boys and Girls Club, United Way and House of Neighborly Service to name a few.
The businessmen pitched their idea to a bank at that time Affiliated First National Bank which had no interest in being involved. The group then met with a new bank’s President (Evan Patterson) of Valley National Bank. Evan was thrilled to be part of the event and that is where “Valley” came from in the race name along with 5000 as the distance in kilometers 3.1 miles.
To keep with vision of the original organizers we have kept the race on Friday night. The race now has a beautiful venue beginning and ending at Mehaffey Park in Loveland and runners have a variety of scenery.
